Awkward Pregnancy Moments

One of the blogs that I love to read does a post called "Awkward and Awesome Thursday". I have recently gone back through the posts that were made while she was pregnant and let me tell you, they are hilarious. I usually skipped over these at the beginning of my pregnancy because I was more interested in the pictures of her maternity outfits. After re-reading these posts, it made me realize how awkward pregnancy is ALREADY getting to be for me. I decided to start my own version and share with you some of my moments...and at times, possibly humiliate myself. Here we go...

  • Walking into school realizing that my wide open zipper, which is supposed to be covered by my “belly band”, is completely exposed for everyone to see.
  • Discovering that my belly was too big for the undershirt that I had on and having to go buy a new one and then change in a bathroom stall (at school). This cannot be done gracefully.
  • Wondering if I were to laugh any harder would I no longer be able to control my bodily functions. Dang pregnancy hormones causing everything to “relax”.
  • Having to lift each leg to the side in order to put on my socks because I can no longer lean forward comfortably.
  • Being so completely out of breath after walking from the living room to the bedroom. This, by the way, is a really short distance.
  •  Having to wear way-too-tight prepregnancy pants because my planned “laundry day” turned into “sit on my butt day". And baby trying to find room in an already cramped space because my jeans are compressing my belly.
  •  My husband pointing out the fact that my belly button is going to POP any day now…and him thinking it is hilarious.
  • Walking through a store with people staring at me and me feeling like I may be looking a little “soft”, resulting in me rubbing my belly with my left hand in order to make it clear that I am pregnant AND married…and not 13 years old

Nursery Part 1: Picking Out Fabrics...

And so the fun begins!

We are expecting a BABY BOY at the end of May, so it is time to start working on the nursery. This first post is going to be all about picking out the fabrics for the crib bedding.

A few friends had recommended online stores that make custom baby bedding. After a lot of browsing, my favorite store ended up being polkatotdesigns.com. This site offers tons of pictures of bedding that had been customized for previous customers, and it also shows their collection of fabrics.

Before we found out that we are having a boy, I had fallen in love with this bedding from polkatotdesigns.com.

As cute as it is, I don't think my husband would appreciate pink bedding for his baby boy, so I had to continue searching. I was able to find a few designs that I liked bits and pieces of, but nothing that I absolutely loved. After browsing through the fabric options multiple times, I finally chose several to start with and ordered swatches. Here is what I ended up with...

I didn't realize it at first, but these fabrics are basically just like the ones for the girls bedding. That made my decision so much easier, because I could just use these fabrics in place of the pink ones.

Fabric # 1 will be used as the piping on the bumper. I think it will add a nice contrast with the white that will make the bumper "pop".

Fabric #2 will be the majority of the bumper, both inside and out.

Fabric #3 is well, the wrong color. I am ordering another swatch in a blue that I am hoping will match the other fabrics better. Here is a picture of it.

There is no telling if this fabric will be the correct color, because the other swatches appeared a different color on the website than they actually are. It was located on the same row as the other fabrics I chose, so I am guessing/hoping it matches. If this color is a better option, then it will be used as the crib mattress cover.

Fabric #4 is for the bed skirt. It will be made as it is in the girl bedding picture with the paisley lining it at the bottom.

Well that is it for the bedding for now. I plan on ordering it soon after receiving the other swatch. I can't wait to show you how it all comes together!
