Nursery Part 1: Picking Out Fabrics...

And so the fun begins!

We are expecting a BABY BOY at the end of May, so it is time to start working on the nursery. This first post is going to be all about picking out the fabrics for the crib bedding.

A few friends had recommended online stores that make custom baby bedding. After a lot of browsing, my favorite store ended up being polkatotdesigns.com. This site offers tons of pictures of bedding that had been customized for previous customers, and it also shows their collection of fabrics.

Before we found out that we are having a boy, I had fallen in love with this bedding from polkatotdesigns.com.

As cute as it is, I don't think my husband would appreciate pink bedding for his baby boy, so I had to continue searching. I was able to find a few designs that I liked bits and pieces of, but nothing that I absolutely loved. After browsing through the fabric options multiple times, I finally chose several to start with and ordered swatches. Here is what I ended up with...

I didn't realize it at first, but these fabrics are basically just like the ones for the girls bedding. That made my decision so much easier, because I could just use these fabrics in place of the pink ones.

Fabric # 1 will be used as the piping on the bumper. I think it will add a nice contrast with the white that will make the bumper "pop".

Fabric #2 will be the majority of the bumper, both inside and out.

Fabric #3 is well, the wrong color. I am ordering another swatch in a blue that I am hoping will match the other fabrics better. Here is a picture of it.

There is no telling if this fabric will be the correct color, because the other swatches appeared a different color on the website than they actually are. It was located on the same row as the other fabrics I chose, so I am guessing/hoping it matches. If this color is a better option, then it will be used as the crib mattress cover.

Fabric #4 is for the bed skirt. It will be made as it is in the girl bedding picture with the paisley lining it at the bottom.

Well that is it for the bedding for now. I plan on ordering it soon after receiving the other swatch. I can't wait to show you how it all comes together!

  2. It will be beautiful--if I can still say that for a baby boy:).
